Ukraine's Yanukovych may face International Criminal Court

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, 25 February 2014

Ukraine's parliament has voted to send fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych to be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for "serious crimes" once he has been captured.

The decision comes as the man who lead the rebellion which saw him ousted at the weekend, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed he would nominate for the presidency at the May 25 national election.

Parliament fixed the presidential elections after dismissing Mr Yanukovych, who has fled Kiev amid outrage over clashes between protesters and police in which dozens were killed.

Meanwhile, Moscow has softened its stance towards the new regime in Kiev, promising not to intervene in its neighbour's crisis and saying the country should not be forced to choose between Russia and the West.
