Peter Cosgrove to be sworn in as governor-general

Former Defence Force chief General Peter Cosgrove will be officially sworn in as Australia's 26th governor-general today.


The former Defence Force Chief will take his oath of allegiance and oath of office in the Senate before Chief Justice Robert French this morning.


There will also be a military 21-gun salute and a parliamentary reception.


He will also receive a knighthood, after Prime Minister Tony Abbott decided to reintroduce the title into the Australian honours system earlier this week.
