Winds lash south-east Australia, power cut to thousands of homes

Wild weather is hampering efforts to restore power to thousands of homes across Victoria and NSW as strong winds and snow blizzards lash much of the country's south-east.


Ambulance Victoria says several people have been taken to hospital because of road accidents and trees falling on cars, and the SES says it has been inundated with more than 2,200 calls for help since midnight.


Gale force winds knocked over a wall at Yarraville, injuring a women in her 60s, and storm surges have caused flooding in central Melbourne.
