Indonesia's highest court unanimously upholds Widodo election result

Indonesia's Constitutional Court has thrown out a challenge by presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto, over claims the election result was rigged.


The ruling paves the way for election winner Joko Widodo to be inaugurated as Indonesia's next president in October.


Clashes between police and supporters of Mr Subianto broke out as the a panel of nine judges began reading out their decision.


In the July 9 presidential run off, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo won 53 per cent of the vote.


Former military general Prabowo Subianto received 46.8 per cent of the vote.


Around 180 million voters cast their ballots during the election.


The results prompted claims of widespread voting fraud from supporters of Mr Subianto.
