Freed hostages who were held captive with murdered journalist James Foley say the American "never gave in" despite being singled out for brutal treatment by his Islamic State (IS) captors.
Their comments came a day after IS released a video showing one of its members beheading Foley, and as the Pentagon revealed US commandoes failed in a secret bid to rescue the freelancer.
Released Frenchman Nicolas Henin says Foley was treated "extra bad" by the militants because his brother was in the US Air Force, but "remained implacable".
