World leaders condemn 'barbaric' beheading of captured journalist

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, 20 August 2014

The world has reacted with shock and disgust to a video which claims to show the beheading of an American journalist by Islamic State militants in retaliation for US airstrikes in Iraq.

The high-resolution video, which has not been verified, apparently shows the killing of 40-year-old James Foley, a freelancer who had been missing since being kidnapped in Syria in 2012.

France has labelled the video "barbaric" and UK prime minister David Cameron has cut short a holiday to hold crisis talks on the "shocking and depraved" act.

With extremists threatening to kill another captured American reporter unless the US halts air strikes, pressure is mounting on the Obama administration.
