A Federal Government backbencher says the proposed six-month waiting period for dole payments will stop unemployed young people eating Cheezels whilst playing video games.
The Government wants to bring in a six-month waiting period during which time young people without a job would not be able to claim unemployment benefits.
The measure is due to be debated in Parliament this week and the Government is negotiating with crossbench senators to get the bill passed.
"There are no free lunches," LNP backbencher Ewen Jones said. "Are we better to say to them, 'look there's your dole -- go home, eat Cheezels, get on the Xbox', kiss you goodbye and we will never see you again?".
