The Prime Minister is calling for the Speaker to back down on plans to ban women who cover their faces from sitting in Parliament's main public galleries.
Tony Abbott remains committed to people being asked to show their faces if they are in secure areas of the building.
But it is understood he will call for common sense to prevail with regard to the public areas of Parliament House.
The final decision will be made by the Speaker, Bronwyn Bishop, and Senate President Stephen Parry.
